God Almighty says in the Holly Qur’an: “Eat and drink, and do not waste. He does not love the wasteful. (Al-A’raf 31)
Rationalization of food consumption and not wasting is necessary in Ramadan, although that does not mean not to enjoy food, but to use in moderation. Exaggeration in eating is harmful to the digestive system, causes indigestion, and exposes the person to many diseases.
Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Those who, when they spend, are not extravagant and not niggardly, but hold a just (balance) between those (extremes).” (Al-Furqan 67)
The rationalization of food consumption is the balance and moderation in spending without wasting something and these are some examples and tips:
Not being influenced by commercials that promote products that we do not really need.
Buy wholesale food especially when prices are low in certain seasons and store them when needed.
Cook enough for the whole family instead of cooking large amounts, and avoid cooking more than one main dish in the meal.
Buying food that fits the family’s income.
Buy adequate amounts of food that get damaged quickly enough for a week only.
Choose foods with health benefits.
Recycle or take advantage of leftover food instead of getting rid of it.
Feed fasting or needy people in your area with excess food.
And the Almighty said: “And give to the near of kin his due and (to) the needy and the wayfarer, and do not squander wastefully. Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and ever has Satan been to his Lord ungrateful.” (Al-Isra: 26, 27)
